· Inspect – Do a simple inspection. Look for:
1. Cracks in foundations, walls and sidewalks (Do you have spots where tree roots have raised your concrete sidewalks creating a trip hazard?);
2. Low areas on your grounds that hold water too long (Are the grounds graded to move water away from your buildings?);
3. Chalky-looking surfaces (Are your buildings’ surfaces chalky-looking? If so, the paint may be breaking down and need pressure-washing and new paint);
4. Faded parking lots (Do your asphalt parking lots need seal-coating and striping?)
· Make a Want List – This is the time to price out small (or large) jobs that you have wanted to get do. Put up or replace fencing, build a retaining wall or concrete planter, repair your concrete driveway or put in pavers, add a new addition on your home or office.
· Locate a reputable contractor – Seek out a professional that will not only do the work but also assist you in making the best, most cost effective choices for your situation. Find a contractor that is knowledgeable in all areas and up-to-date with what’s new in materials and in government codes.
· Once you have found your ideal contractor, schedule early! When you are ready for repairs, you don’t want to be put on a waiting list. Keep in mind, your contractor, depending on the extent of the work you want done, may need to get the necessary permits… and, as we all know, that may take some time.
By the time summer is here, your place will have the “facelift” you are looking for!
